Apart from President Raisi, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian, East Azerbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati and religious leader Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem have also died in this accident. All these people were traveling in the same helicopter. Iran’s Press TV wrote in X Post, ‘The rescue team has identified the crashed helicopter of President Ebrahim Raisi. No trace of any living person has been found.
Iran’s Press TV reported that after hours of search operations in mountainous areas amid bad weather, rescue teams identified the wreckage of President Ebrahim Raisi’s crashed helicopter. The crashed helicopter was found completely burnt, and no one on board is likely to be alive. The helicopter had crashed on Sunday in Jolfa in the country’s north-western hilly region. The incident occurred when President Raisi and others were returning from a visit to Azerbaijan. President Ebrahim Raisi’s chair was kept vacant in the emergency meeting of the government in Iran.
The presidential convoy included three helicopters, two of which returned safely, but the helicopter that carried Ebrahim Raisi along with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, East Azerbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati and religious leader Mohammad Ali Ale- did not return. Hashem was also on board. Due to bad weather, it took about 17 hours for the rescue team to reach the spot. First Vice President Mohammad Mokhbar may be the next President of Iran. The name of the next President will be approved only after the approval of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Raisi was seen as a disciple of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a potential successor to his position within the country’s Shia theocracy. According to the Iranian Constitution, if the President dies while in office, the country’s First Vice President will become the next President. Currently Mohammad Mokhbar is the First Vice President of Iran. Ayatollah Khamenei has also publicly assured Iranians that there will be no disruption in the country’s operations due to this unfortunate accident.
